In today's tough economy, no where in history that I can remember, are more people opting to start home based businesses. It's flexible and you get to spend more time with your family. You can devote the time you feel is sufficient to propel your business. The benefits go on and on. There are pitfalls to this too, but I am writing on how to get your home based business started.
There is an idea that floated in my head some time ago, because I like to make things pretty. An elegant idea for all you entrepreneurs out there is starting a Home Staging Business. You are helping homeowners, real estate agents, and potential buyers into choosing a home that speaks to them. One of those ways a home speaks to a potential buyer is how it is presented. If you have the eye for colors, patterns, and so on, you can become a home stager. There are no licenses or degrees you need to become one. But, you should prepare yourself and get help where needed.
We all have watched those shows on HGTV about staging and how important it is. There are many homes on the market that wound up staying on the market for a very long time (hard sell). I believe it is because it is not staged properly, especially when the occupants are still living there. As a home stager, you will charge the homeowners approximately 10% of the income they make in selling their house. That is almost the equivalent amount real estate agents receive, give or take depending on the state you live in.
For a moderate amount of money, purchase yourself some furniture, that you can buy at local consignment shops or Goodwill stores. Consignment shops are usually where interior designers sell or give away their unused or used staging furniture. It usually is in top condition and you can get it for a steal. The same goes for Goodwill stores. You may have to sand and stain the furniture again, but you will save money for the piece you purchase.
To check out some sites and companies that stage homes, you can visit: http://www.iahsp.com, it stands for International Association of Home Staging Professionals. For a homestaging startup business package you can go to http://www.homestagingsuccess.com. You can also study at home and earn a certification in homestaging. Just go to http://www.homestaginginstitute.com. Remember, staging is important, so is your name. Be diligent, trustworthy and true to your word. Having a good to great reputation will take you farther in the business and make you more successful.
Hope this information helps. Good luck!
