Officials at Fort Bragg released the grim news yesterday, that yet another paratrooper has been found dead on post. Pvt. 1st Class Lance D. Cuffee, 23, of Norfolk, Virginia, was found dead Wednesday; time unknown. An investigation has been launched into circumstances surrounding his death.
Pvt. 1st Class Cuffee was a geospatial intelligence imagery analyst in Intelligence and Sustainment Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion. He had been a member of the 18th Airborne Corps since November.
Cuffee had only been in the Army since January 2013. His basic training was competed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Advanced Individual Training was at Fort Huachuca near Sierra Vista, Arizona.
His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Parachutist badge.
The family of Pvt. 1st Class Cuffee has not released funeral arrangements for their Soldier. Condolences have been posted on Lance Cuffee’s Facebook page. His last personal submission was Aug. 19.
Pvt. 1st Class Cuffee’s death follows the death of Sgt. Adam Gilliam, 28, of Morristown, Tennessee, who was found dead Saturday, Aug. 23. He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. There is an active investigation into his death, as well.
In an eerily similar incident, another Fort Bragg 82nd Airborne Soldier was found dead in his barracks in March 2013. Spc. Robert P. Wasser of Marysville, Washington, was a military police officer with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.
