Another Dominion Power scam hits Richmond

Police are warning Richmond area businesses of another scam going around the past couple weeks. Again, Dominion Power is being targeted as the company involved, but it is entirely false.

In the scam, a person calls a business, professing to be a representative of Dominion Power, and tells the business owner their electric bill has not been paid, or additional charges are now due. This has occurred on two occasions that have been documented, one on Jan. 4 and another on Jan. 7.

If you receive one of these phone calls, detectives have asked that customers contact Dominion Virginia Power on a landline phone, using one of the agency’s official phone numbers before taking any action.

It is also recommended that you never hand out any personal information, especially credit card or bank information over the phone. The Richmond Police Department asks that anyone wanting to report a crime of this nature to please call Fourth Precinct Detective Todd Perseghin at (804) 646-3103 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
