Atlanta youth hockey contiues to develop young talent and another player has caught the attention of hockey organizations out of the region.

it was not too many years ago that teams from other parts of the country discounted matchups with teams from Georgia, Florida and other parts of the South.

Since that time several youth players have moved on from Southern teams to play in the USHL, Division One college teams, and several prestigious prep schools.

Noteworthy is the fact that youth players in Georgia and Florida are being scouted and offered positions on teams like Little Caesars, Honeybaked, Chicago Mission, and other Northern based squads.

One example of a Atlanta player being recruited is Andrew Gapineau who has spent the majority of his development with the Atlanta Ice Forum in Duluth, Georgia. Andrew has played forward and goaltender for the now defunct Junior Thrashers organization and more recently the Atlanta Phoenix.

It was Andrew's switch from forward to goaltender that may have ignited his thirst to compete and improve his game.

When Andrew attended the "Hockey Night in Boston" camp at Boston College he was approached by the head coach of Tilton Academy and his interview with school officials and coaches led to a partial scholarship offer. Andrew had the right mixture of academics and goaltending skills and he fit into the schools hockey squad needs perfectly.

Andrew will play goaltender at Tilton Academy n New Hampshire starting August 28th.

His parents will not pick up stakes, and Andrew will be boarded on school premises. massachusetts

Andrew also talked to Kimball Union Academy and Christian Academy in Massachusetts ,New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire and Hill Academy in Pennsylvania.

"We spoke with several Prep schools and Tilton Academy offerred the best finaancial package so we decided to attend that school" said Andrew's father

" It is my son's dream to win a scholarship to play at Boston College " added his father.
