Anonymous hits Westboro Baptist Church - websites offline, members doxed

Anonymous hits Westboro Baptist Church: WBC websites taken offline; church members’ names, addresses, phone numbers and other personal information released.

On Thursday, hacktivists associated with Anonymous disabled websites belonging to the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC). Two church websites, godhatesfags.com, and godhatesamerica.com, were both made unavailable for several hours on Thursday. In addition, church members were doxed, their personal information released via Pastebin (Credit @Infamous_Anon).

On Wednesday night the anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church announced via Twitter their intention to picket the funeral of two boys murdered last Sunday by their father. The church is blaming the tragic death of Charlie and Braden Powell on Washington state's new law legalizing same-sex marriage.

MSNBC reports that on her Twitter feed Wednesday, Margie J. Phelps wrote:

“Westboro will picket the funerals of the Powell boys, Sat.,2/11, 12:15p, to remind @GovGregoire they died because of her rebellion,”
and
“This is why God's cursed you w Josh Powells blowing up kids.”

The Westboro Baptist Church is notorious for its "God Hates Fags" signs and the picketing of US soldier's funerals. Church members have gained great notoriety by preaching an obnoxious, homophobic, hate filled gospel.

This is the second time in a week Anonymous has targeted websites belonging to the Westboro Baptist Church. On Tuesday, LulzFinancial,  a new crew of hackers associated with Anonymous, took down GodHatesFags.com. The same crew is credited for Thursday’s attacks.

Indeed, LulzFinancial made an impressive debut this week. The new crew of hacktivists began the week by hacking into the Syrian Ministry of Presidential Affairs. On Monday, Anonymous hacktivists released hundreds of emails from Syrian President Bashar Assad's office. 78 email accounts belonging to Assad's aides and advisers were hacked, including the Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Fadlallah Azzam, and Assad's media adviser, Bouthaina Shaaban.

In addition to taking down the Westboro Baptist Church website on Tuesday, LulzFinancial also revealed personal information belonging to alleged members of Stormfront, a neo-Nazi hate group.
