The Florida Keys Fishing Guides Association hosts the Annual Swamp Guides Ball Fishing Tournament and Auction Friday, Jan 31, to Saturday, Feb 1. The casual event is an all-release snook, redfish and bonefish tournament especially encouraging guides to fish and show what they can do out on the water with a rod in their hands rather than just poling the boat for other competitive anglers.

Proceeds benefit the Guides Trust Foundation, which lends assistance to Florida Keys Fishing Guides during times of financial hardship. The foundation also supports game fish research through various organizations.

Kick-off is Friday at the dockside beach of the Lorelei Restaurant, mile marker 82 bayside in Islamorada, and fishing Saturday is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entry fee per team is $200 and includes 2 anglers, 2 social tickets, 2 SGB T-Shirts and 2 Ditty Bags. Late entry fee paid at the kick-off day Friday is $250. Additional social tickets may be bought for $20.

The annual Swamp Guides Tournament’s long-sleeved T-shirt is a coveted item which always sells out, thanks to Tim Borski’s terrific wildlife art ( that offers a new design each year.
