The 11th annual Senior Injury Prevention Conference will be presented by the Senior Injury Prevention Partnership (SIPP) of Alameda County this Thursday, May 26 from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. The location of this year’s state-wide conference is the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, 4422 Y Street at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. The cost of this day-long event is $65 and includes lunch. Continuing education units are also available.
The focus of this year’s conference is Maximizing Results with Limited Resources. The title shows recognition by the SIPP program of the need for both collaborations within communities, and the need for the development and sharing of strategic resources in these difficult times for services for the elderly. Key topics include:
• Eliciting stronger support from within your organization
• Keeping your project going
• Increasing support for your activities
• Determining the best way to promote your services
The conference features a variety of speakers, each examining how to adapt to the realities of the current environment. The conference moderator is Barb Alberson, Chief, Local and State Injury Control Section of the California Department of Public Health. Laura Connolly, Chief Deputy Director of the California Department of Aging will deliver the keynote address at 8:30am.
Additional speakers include: Mike Taigman, CEO of American Medical Response speaking on collaboration and identifying potential partners; Shelly Garone, MD, Medical Director, Palliative Care, Chief of Quality NVLY Kaiser Permanente on promoting service provider activities, Laurel Zien, ElderCare Coach and Educator (this writer), presenting a Medication Safety Update for 2011.
Afternoon sessions include Colleen Denny-Garamendi, Dr.PH of the Professional Evaluation group on evaluating and demonstrating the importance of the work of service providers; and Stefany Kaplanes, Community Injury Prevention Coordinator of the Alameda County Medical Center discussing the status of their Fall Prevention Center.
The conference is supported by Alta Bates Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, Alameda County, Vital-Link, Eden Medical Center and Alameda County EMS.
