The New Hampshire SPCA is hosting their Annual Kitty Shower this weekend. Visions of kittens pouring down from above were soon dispelled upon talking to Richard Maxwell, director of volunteers for the shelter at 104 Portsmouth Avenue (NH 108) in Stratham. In other words, 'Think Baby Shower.'

Richard explained that each Spring, the burgeoning number of unwanted, abused, or stray kittens arrives at the shelter putting a strain on the ability to care for so many, not only in space but food, bedding, and volunteers to empty litter boxes and perform other duties.

The answer? A Kitty Shower.
On Saturday and Sunday, between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. the shelter will host:

  • Annual Kitten Shower - Help Us Prepare for Kitten Season at the NHSPCA

  • Wonderful Basket Raffle!

  • Decadent Bake Sale!

  • We are expecting 300+ kittens this season that will all need food and loving homes!

  • Much Needed Supplies: Canned Kitten Food, Kitty Litter, KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer), Blankets, Beds & Toys
  • Every year the NHSPCA takes in almost 4000 cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, geese, mice, rats, ferrets, iguanas, geese, horses, chicken, hedgehogs and other animals. All are looking for warm shelter and a loving, gentle hand to care for them.

  • Can you help?

The NHSPCA web site has much to offer any animal lover. Begin with a virtual tour. Click on the individual photos to learn more about each section. Better yet, come out to the shelter and see for yourself what a calm, clean, happy environment it is for the lucky animals who have found temporary shelter here - waiting for the lucky people who will share a home with them.

Have you a little hollow space in your heart? One that could be filled by a loving cat? A cat that would be so close you could feel the contented purr? Come out here, and when That Cat looks at you eye-to-eye, you'll know the magic of love.

Gail grew up with Scotties and Setters. Eight Scotties later, she moved to a house on the beach - that required a Golden Retriever. In 2008, she found herself living in Florida in an RV campground that loved dogs, so she and husband Cor, 'rescued' a stray chocolate lab, and then the fun began. ...
