It's time for the 18th annual Jenks Herb and Plant Festival which will be held this Saturday, April 19th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's a one day event hosted by the Jenks Garden Club. Admittance is free so bring the whole family and make a day of it.
The festival will be in downtown Jenks with over 100 vendors lining Main Street. Gardeners of all interest and skill levels will find plants and other gardening items to suit their needs. The tried-and-true will be offered as well as unusual and new for 2014 plants. This year, for the first time, shoppers will find fresh produce. Garden art and other garden needs will also be on display. Shoppers can drop their purchases at the Shop and Drop for safekeeping which is manned by volunteers.
The Children's Area has been expanded this year, according to Karen Meyer, a co-president of the garden club. They will have 6 crafts booths which are for children and adults of all ages. Children will be able to participate in a couple of games with candy prizes. St. James Presbyterian Church will have take-home plantings and the Jenks Fire Department will bring their fire truck.
For the early birds, the Kiwanis Club is hosting their pancake breakfast at the First United Methodist Church, 5th and Main. There will also be other tempting things to eat as you browse through all the booths. Oklahoma vineyards will have their wares on hand for those eager to try local wines.
