One of Fort Myers Beach’s most enjoyable annual events is the Fort Myers Beach Film Festival which begins tomorrow, April 23, 2014 and ends Sunday the 27th. You and your family will thoroughly enjoy a peek into the world of independent film, and the dedicated artists who make them. For the filmmakers, this is serious business: an opportunity to have their work seen (and judged) by their peers; an opportunity to meet and interact with those who share their passion; and a forum to discuss the joy (and tribulation) that drives them to do what they do.
For us, it’s a chance to watch interesting new movies in a pleasant and comfortable theater, against the backdrop of the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. For a schedule of showings and detailed synopses follow the links. Tickets are $6 per showing, pick the ones you find interesting. Some events and workshops are more intended for the entrants, but the film showings and family events are a fun and frugal way for you and your family to step into their fascinating world. The showings are more than just going to watch a movie, you will have a chance to meet the actors, producers and directors in an intimate setting and listen to some of their personal stories about the movies they make and love. If that’s not enough, on Friday, there will be an outdoor showing of the Disney family movie “Teen Beach Movie” on the beach at sunset.
The Festival website provides the following description: “The Eighth Annual Fort Myers Beach Film Festival, a celebration of independent filmmaking and the visual arts, takes place April 23-27, 2014. …An opening ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 is followed immediately by the first film screening at 3:00 p.m. at festival headquarters, Beach Theater, 6425 Estero Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach.”
