Annual CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival commences Tuesday

Now in its 30th year, New York's CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival, the largest and longest-running music trade event of its type, starts Tuesday, Oct. 19, and will run through Oct. 23.

CMJ stands for College Music Journal and is the music events/publishing company that operates the Music Marathon and publishes a weekly magazine and Top 30 listings aimed at the college radio side of the music industry. Its annual music/film fest will take place at New York University’s Greenwich Village campus, where the company will present over 70 business panels while showcasing over 1,200 performances in over 75 Manhattan and Brooklyn venues by artists from over 30 countries.

The conference agenda also includes top industry speakers, a music business law seminar, and the annual CMJ College Day summit, to take place Oct. 21 and feature panels dedicated to the unique needs of college radio.

Registration headquarters and badge-pickup are at The Judson Memorial Church. The other key location is NYU's Kimmel Center, where the panels will be held.

Also at the Kimmel Center is the Exhibitors’ Loft & Lounge (in the Eisner & Lubin Auditorium) where exhibitors from the music, technology and entertainment worlds will display their wares, and badge-holders will use the space as the primary meeting place.

Badge-holders have full access to all music showcases, film screening, panels, parties, keynote speeches, mentoring sessions, and special events, in addition to entrance to the Exhibitors' Loft & Lounge.

The 2010 CMJ Music Marathon is bundled for the 16th year with an international film festival taking place simultaneously at theaters and screening rooms around town. But the annual gathering remains best known for its music focus, having had a hand in identifying artists like U2, R.E.M., Nirvana, Green Day and the White Stripes, who all appealed first to college and alternative radio programmers before breaking through to the mainstream.
