The Apple Festival is next weekend, Saturday, September 7th from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Garin Park in Hayward.
Believe it or not, Garin has an antique apple orchard with 180 varieties of apples (according to the latest count). You can take a docent-led tour and see it for yourself! You can also sample many of the varieties and vote for your favorite. And the festival has more than just apples. This family-friendly event includes ice cream and cider making, music, dancing, hiking, crafts, old-fashioned games, and a petting zoo.
This year Redwood 4-H and Bananas for Bunnies Rabbit Rescue have once again teamed up to bring you family-friendly animals with which to play and learn. Bananas for Bunnies will have flyers and updates on adoptable rabbits you can meet on site and Redwood 4-H will have a host of other critters including ponies, a goat, chinchillas, chickens, reptiles, and baby bunnies. This is a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to get up close and personal with social pets while learning more about them from the 4-H kids who raise them. There will also be activities and educational information about the animals and about 4-H in general.
Garin Park is a wonderful site for a picnic, so bring your cooler and picnic blanket and plan to spend the day!
The event is free, but parking is $5.00.
