(Continued from Part 2)
In the movie Office Space, Lawrence (Diedrich Bader), a scruffy construction worker who randomly talks to his neighbor, Peter (Ron Livingston), through the thin walls. When Peter has a date over, Lawrence yells, Hey, turn on channel 5, they’re doing the breast exam again. Then when Peter and his friends are privately hatching a money laundering scheme and they take an oath not to tell anyone, Lawrence interjects through the wall, Don’t worry man, I won’t tell anyone either. He provides this intrusive comic relief throughout the film.
In the movie Suburbia, which is a loose remake of Rear Window, Kale (Shia Lebeoff), is house bound as a result of being put on house arrest. Many other films have followed this template of a housebound person who gets bored and spies on their neighbor. In this movie, he observes his neighbor, Mr. Turner (David Morse), who brings women home and apparently kills them. This is sort of a double whammy for the annoying neighbor, because Kale annoys his neighbor by invading his privacy and drawing attention to his evil actions, while Mr. Turner makes Kale look crazy for making such allegations. Then, he befriends Kale’s mom just to taunt him. In this film, both neighbors must fight it out to claim their territory.
While there are many more annoying neighbors in the world and in movie land, these are the top five that I can recall. If you have not seen these films they are worth checking out.
