On December 15th, this Sunday, Pagan Pride Detroit and the Great Lakes Witchs' Council will be hosting the Yuletide Maker's Faire and Chilly Chili Cook Off and Elf March. You read that correctly, all that in one space. And the feature event is the competition for the Spoon of Destiny - giving the best chili chef bragging rights for a whole year.
ALL FAITHS are welcome to attend and have a good time at this event, though it is Pagan based on celebrating the Yule holiday and the return of the Sun. Joy and revelry will abound as they have promised an event filled with entertainment and good times.
It starts at 12:30 in Green Acres Park, where the First Annual Elf March will begin. Led by the Holly King and the Faery Queen, children of all ages are welcome to march and sing and dance along as they make their way to the Faire. There will be music, surprises, and a general good time for all. Costumes are welcome and encouraged, as the Elf March is an event for Yule much like the Zombie Walk is for Samhain.
This location should be familiar with those who attend the annual Pagan Pride Day Detroit festivals.
Admission is $5.00 and children 12 years old and under are free of charge.
Once at the recreation center, the Opening Ceremony and Blessing will allow admittance to a feast of local vendors and artisans. Who will be there? Well an inside source has leaked the list, so the vendors are

What kind of entertainment can the attendee expect? According to their site, the schedule is
"1:00 HOLLY KING AND FAERY QUEEN BLESSING
1:15 MUSICAL PERFORMANCE BY KRIS MCLONIS
2:00 STORY TIME
3:00 YULETIDE PERFORMANCES, INCLUDING HOLIDAY SINGALONG
4:00 THE SPOON OF DESTINY PRESENTATION
4:30 THE FAERY PRINCESS CHILDREN'S MARCH
4:45 CLOSING CEREMONY"
And the best part of this is that they are collecting canned goods and toys for charity, which they will be donating to a local Pagan Charity to ensure the items get to those who need it most.
For the little ones, the Holly King will be handing out Yule gifts. And all the children can have their photograph taken with the Holly King and Faery Queen. They can work on glitzing it up in the Children's Craft Room, which also will hold the Chili pots.
Do not worry, all the entries of chili will be labeled for allergens, and every admission comes with free tasting of all the chilis. Complementary corn bread comes with it. Judging is done by the tasters, so you control the outcome.
For those looking for other fare, there will also be in operation a Soul Kitchen. For those not familiar with how this works, this is a kitchen where you give whatever donation you are able to, and if unable to give, that is okay, you still get your treat. Whether it be food or drink, make merry.
And of course, as anyone who has been to a Great Lakes Witchs Council event will expect, there will be cookies.
Ugly sweaters are welcome, and encouraged. Do your worst, and you may just win a prize.
This event is designed to bring the community together for a Yule affair and shopping experience where they can get to know their Pagan neighbors and vendors.
The fun all happens at the Hazel Park Recreation Center, 620 W. Woodward Heights Blvd., Hazel Park, Michigan.
Make sure to bring plenty of friends, as this event is not to be missed.
Blessed Be and Merry Yule
