The Atlanta Blues Challenge was held Sunday, August 17, at Hard Rock Cafe' in Atlanta. I missed it because I was moving but I hear it was intense, exciting, and 9 hours long!
When it was all over, the following winners were chosen to represent the Atlanta Blues Society in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge in January 2015. All of the winners except the People's Choice winners will make the trip to Memphis. The People's Choice winners were chosen by the audience and not by the judges, and received $250 as their prize.
Here are the winners:
Band Category - JP Blues Band
JP is also known as John Pagano. He plays lead guitar and handles lead vocals. His group consists of Shiloh Bloodworth on drums and Tony Hossri on bass. They are very dynamic and will do us all proud in Atlanta.
Solo/Duo -Blind Cadillac
Blind Cadillac is the collaborative project of local musicians David Pippin and Jeremy Neese. This is their first year in the competition and we expect good things from them!
Youth Group - GHP
Expect to hear a lot from these under-21 competitors! I can't find any information about them online yet, but knowing the quality of the groups they were competing against, they have to be amazing!
For the third year in a row, youth group Scene of the Crime won the People's Choice Award. With a crowd that appreciates the blues like this crowd does, that is an achievement to be proud of!
All of these groups have proven with this win that they are something really special. We can't wait to see how they do in Memphis! Congratulations to all the winners!
