The acronym, PAWS in PAWS Chicago stands for Pets Are Worth Saving Chicago. The organization was founded in 1997.
Due to their years of commitment, they have become a national model in animal sheltering. They are committed to brining and end to the senseless killing of homeless cats and dogs. Since the organization was founded, the number of homeless dogs and cats killed in Chicagoland has been reduced by nearly 70% (42,561 euthanized in 1997 compared to fewer than 14,000 in 2013).
PAWS Chicago has committed to locating forever homes for greater than 6,000 pets from its cage-less, state-of-the-art No-Kill Adoption Center. They have also committed to performing more than 18,000 free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries in several disadvantaged communities in Illinois through its Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic and GusMobile Spay/Neuter Van.
Due to the community commitment, this organization not only focuses on pet rescue and adoption, but on how they can help the community at large by educating them on pet-related topics. PAWS Chicago Founder and CEO Paula Fasseas will host the 2014 Pet Lovers Speaker Series; a panel discussion - “Important Findings on Nutrition, Behavior and Animal Welfare” with Dr. Barbara Royal, DVM, CVA, Founder, The Royal Treatment Veterinary Center, and Dr. Sara L. Bennett, DVM, MS, Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists and Veterinary Behavior Specialist, VCA Berwyn Animal Hospital on Wednesday, February 19th. Each of the panelists and guest speakers are active in animal welfare, behavior and veterinary medicine. They promise to cover a range of topics in the question and answer session of relevance to the companion animal owner and caregiver, besides the issues that matter to them.
The Series is scheduled to take place at the PAWS Chicago Adoption & Humane Center located at 1997 North Clybourn Avenue in Chicago, Illinois from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. this coming Wednesday. The entire evening is FREE to attend and open to the public. PAWS Chicago requests that you do RSVP to RSVP@pawschicago.org or at least register online at www.pawschicago.org/speaker-series.
