The holiday season continues through Sunday, Jan. 5, so you've got a few more evenings to enjoy activities such as a visit to Annmarie Garden in Lights. The walk-through light show is open evenings from 6 to 9 (with the last car entry at 8:45). It is closed Thursday, Jan 2.
If it's cold, the leisurely walk through the lit path took about 21 minutes. Kids seemed to enjoy it. So you won't be out in the cold too long. And you can warm up indoors to entertainment that comes with the price of admission ($6 for ages five and up; free for those younger and for garden members). But go to the website, http://www.annmariegarden.org/annmarie2/content/garden-lights-magical-light-show, to download a $1 off coupon.
Not many seats are available to sit and listen to the musical entertainment but you can wander about the two-story art gallery while you listen and warm up. Refreshments are also available.
Though pets are usually prohibited from the grounds, Wednesday is pet night and the garden encourages leashed pets. Friday is free admission for active military members and their families.
The lit garden path includes a series of eight clever exhibits – nothing with a holiday or religious theme but sections featuring pop culture, outer space, fantasy, the American West, zoo animals, an art gallery full of reproductions of famous works and finally a journey under the sea
You can walk through and find a series of pleasant surprises – or you can get the ”Holiday I Spy” game checklist that tells you what to look for. The trouble with the checklist is that it's too dark to read on the path. So if you choose that route, consider bringing a small flashlight.
Annmarie Garden MD is located at 13480 Dowell Rd., north of Solomons MD off of Rt. 4. A large lit sign, fittingly, shows you when you've reached the place. (People often mistake the name slightly as Annmarie Gardens, Annmarie's Garden, etc.) For info, call (410) 326-4640.
