The Natural History Society of Maryland is holding a plant lab on June 23. It will be held at the Maryland Naturalist Center in Baltimore 7 - 9 p.m. Participants will help identify plant specimens and learn to use plant keys, microscopes, hand lenses, and reference collections. Baltimore Green Space and Blue Water Baltimore seek volunteers for Tree Hug Tuesday on June 24. The hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Every Tuesday, participants mulch, stake, and prune newly planted trees in Baltimore city and Baltimore County. BWB provides all the equipment and work gloves. The Maryland Native Plant Society is offering a lecture in the shadbush (Amelanchier) of the Potomac Gorge at the Kensington Library on June 24. It will start at 7:30 p.m. The speaker, Christopher Frye, is a botanist who has studied the plant for 10 years. The lecture is open to the public. For more information, visit www.mdflora.org.

The Adkins Arboretum is offering a bus trip to the Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm and Brooklyn Botanic Garden on June 25. The bus leaves Aurora Park Drive in Easton at 8 a.m. and then departs for home at 6.p.m. Participants should bring a lunch to eat on the bus. The Brooklyn Grange produces over 50,000 pounds of organic vegetables each year and the Botanic Garden is home to many native plant species. Baltimore Green Space is offering a talk, "Land Security for Community Open Spaces," at 800 Wyman Park Drive on June 25. It will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The talk will cover such matters as the basics of land preservation, how Baltimore City decides which lots not to sell, and information about greening projects.
