Annie's Special Day by Clara Bowman-Jahn

About the Author:

Clara Bowman-Jahn worked as a registered nurse for thirty two years, finally trading that job for her true love, and writing. Clara's short stories have been published in the anthology of the "Campaigner's Challenges 2011 Book."
When Clara is not writing, she does volunteer work for a local elementary school and her church. She also likes taking long walks with her husband, blogging, and reading books. She is a member of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Pennwriters, Bethesda Writer's Center and Round Hill Writer's Group. She lives in rural Loudoun County, Virginia with her humorous husband, a senior dog and two cats. And she is the proud mother of two wonderful grown sons and the proud grandmother of one delightful grandson. Her first children's picture book is Annie's Special Day.

About the book:

Annie’s Special Day is a brightly-colored picture book, full of happy children. In it, a little girl has a new adventure every hour as she celebrates her birthday over twenty-four hours. It is a fun basic concept book about time and clocks.

The book begins with, “Already awake and excited, Annie heard the alarm go off. The clock showed 7 o’clock in the morning, and the sun painted her bedroom walls and toys with a golden glow.” The book progresses throughout the day as Annie is determined to make the most out of every hour. Some parents worry that it sets a bad example as she stays awake through the night, but will be satisfied that Annie’s parents deal with it in a creative way. It is a great book to help teach time to kindergartners, and is aimed at kids age four through seven as they learn to tell time.

Each illustration has a different clock on it, digital as well as analog, which in this day and age of digital everything is interesting. It is important that there are analog clocks because once the electricity goes off we need it to correct the time on the digital ones. Claudia Wolf the illustrator has done a beautiful job in doing the art for the book. She has illustrated each activity with love and creativity.
