Annie Le Yale student body found no suspect, but large amount of physical evidence

Annie Le, 24 disappeared last Tuesday morning after entering a lab building near the Yale campus.  An autopsy confirmed Annie Le's remains, and her case is now a homicide.  Her body was found stuffed into a wall in the basement of the building, around 5 pm Sunday.  The local police stated that Annie Le was probably not the victim of a random act.

Annie Le was reported missing, and her purse with her identification, money, and credit cards were found in her third-floor office at the Yale medical school building where the body was found.  Annie Le worked in a lab in the basement of the five-story building.

On Monday, the local police would not say if they have a suspect, but did state that no one is currently in custody.

"We're not believing it's a random act," said Officer Joe Avery, a police spokesman.  He would not provide further details but said no one else is in danger.

The Yale medical school building where Annie Le was found has about 75 video surveillance cameras that monitor the surrounding area of the building and all doorways, and a key card is needed to access the building.  CNN live reported this afternoon that only a handful of people had access to the basement of that building.

"It's a frightening idea that there's a murderer walking around on campus," said 20-year-old Muneeb Sultan, a chemistry student. "I'm shocked that it happened in a Yale building that had key-card access. It's really sad," the Associated Press reported.

A CNN report today, mentioned that the police specifically stated that they will not provide any details on the cause of death, until a suspect has been found.

The building where Annie Le was found has been closed for the day so that the police can complete their investigation, according to a message sent to Yale students and staff.  Linda Lorimer, Yale Vice-President said that when the building reopens, there will be extra security both inside and outside.

Friends of Annie Le stated that she never showed signs of worrying about her own safety at work.  “If she was concerned about (it) she would have said something to someone and they would have known," Jennifer Simpson told CBS' "The Early Show." "And Jon (her fiancé) would have known, her family would have known, friends would have known," the Associated Press reported.

Police stated that they have "a large amount" of physical evidence to analyze, according to the Associated Press.

The police have stated firmly that Annie Le's fiancé, Jonathan Widawsky is not a suspect and has been assisting in the investigation.  Widawsky is a graduate student at Columbia University in New York and the two had planned to marry yesterday in Syosset, New York on Long Island.

Yale university students have planned a candlelight vigil at 8 p.m. Monday.

Investigators at the press conference on Saturday said they recovered evidence from the building, but would not confirm media reports that the items included bloody clothing that was hidden in the ceiling of Annie Le’s office.

In February 2009, Annie Le wrote an article that was published in the Yale medical school magazine.  The article was titled, "Crime and Safety in New Haven," and compared higher instances of robbery in New Haven with other cities that have Ivy League schools.

So, what kind of sentence will her killer receive in Connecticut? Three years of guidance counseling and work-release?

When will these schools learn they need MORE SECURITY. We've had shootings and murders in colleges, have they not learned ANYTHING? I don't care if they have to put cops in every part of every college campus 24 hours a day. You have to do what you have to do to stop this crime. It seems the mentality in many parts of America is, wait for a something to happen before you do something about it. How about trying to PREVENT this from happening?

The building had 75 cameras (To prevent PETA activists from breaking in). Clearly this was an inside job.

If people had to use a proxy card to enter the building then, shouldn't there be some record that is kept of who enters or exits the building? This was not a random act,she was targeted and somebody knew her schedule and they carefully planned this out.Very sad and upsetting.
