Yesterday, October 21st, Anne Rice, author of "Interview with the Vampire", hosted a book signing at Joseph Beth bookstore with her son, novelist Christopher Rice in Lexington, Kentucky.
Each was promoting a new book, Anne with "The Wolves of Midwinter", Christopher with "The Heavens Rise".
Beginning at 7 pm, mother and son welcomed their fans one at a time, cheerfully answering questions, both looking as though they were greeting old friends and putting nervous fans at ease, staying until well after 10 pm to ensure every fan got their books signed.
Some fans drove from as far away as Northern Kentucky, such as Kari Bachinski, a longtime fan who brought her family along for the ride. She'd been a fan since fourteen, when she first delved into "Interview with the Vampire". This was Kari's first Anne Rice signing, and she was prepared with her favorite volumes along with the latest, "The Wolves of Midwinter".
"I'm a book snob" Kari laughs as she explained most of her books are first editions as well as overseas editions. "I just like the covers". Kari's favorite Anne Rice series is the Vampire Chronicles and when asked who should next portray Anne's famous vampire character Lestat, Kari agreed with Lestat's creator. "Matt Bomer!" she says with a mischevious grin. Matt would certainly be in good company, joining both Tom Cruise and Stuart Townsend as the suave larger-than-life character, whom Anne had once described as "the male version of me".
Anne Rice published her first novel in 1976, and has gone on to be one of the most famous horror/supernatural writers in the world. Her son, Christopher, has just published his fifth novel, and also hosts an internet radio show, "The Dinner Party Show".
Although the large bookstore was packed with vampire and book fans, lines moved smoothly and everyone seemed to have a positive experience greeting their favorite authors. Visit Anne Rice's facebook page for more details on her bookstore, or her website, annerice.com.
