Director Bryan Singer tweeted today that Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore are on board to reprise their roles from "X-Men: The Last Stand" in his upcoming film "X-Men: Days of Future Past". Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore played the role of Rogue, Kitty Pryde, and Iceman.

Bryan Singer’s tweet (@BryanSinger) thanked Brett Ratner “for letting them live!” in Ratner's "X-Men: The Last Stand".

Last month, the director tweeted that Hugh Jackman is reprising his role as Wolverine for the film. In addition, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence are returning to the X-Men universe for Singer's new film.

Bryan Singer directed the wildly popular "X-Men" and "X2"and successfully launched the X-Men franchise for Fox. However, he also directed the lackluster "Superman Returns" for WB in what many considered to be a misstep for the iconic superhero. Fans are hoping that he'll be returning to form and reigniting the X-Men franchise.

While plot points for the new film is still not known, there is a popular X-Men storyline of the same name that was published in The Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and #142 in 1981. In that storyline, the X-Men deals with a dystopian alternate future where mutants are incarcerated in internment camps. In that future, Kitty Pryde transfers her mind into her younger, present-day self and guides the X-Men so that they can prevent that alternate future from over happening.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" opens July 18, 2014.
