A little over a week since it was announced that Jennifer Lopez would be starring in a remake of the 1987 comedy Overboard, another Goldie Hawn remake is in the works. Anna Faris is set to star in new version of Private Benjamin.
The 1980 film, which was a career making film for Hawn, followed "a spoiled woman who joins the Army after her husband dies during sex on their wedding night." The updated version will be set in "contemporary times with modern wars as the backdrop." Wisely, the film won't make fun of those in the service or comment on any ongoing politics, "but rather focus on the empowerment elements and build on the fish-out-of-water comedy."
The film is currently set up at New Line who are also remaking the '80s comedy franchises National Lampoon's Vacation and Police Academy. Faris is set to shoot the comedy What's Your Number next. Filming gets underway in May and she will be co-starring with the new Captain America, Chris Evans.
