Ann Curry is begging NBC executives, it was reported Dec. 31, to let her out of her current contract. She wants to take a job at CNN as a prestigious news anchor in Anderson Cooper's 8 p.m. time slot. Curry's former boss at the "Today Show", Jeff Zucker, will be the president of CNN Worldwide come February 2013 and wants Curry in Cooper's slot.
"Ann wants out of her contract, big time. She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network. However, NBC bosses have indicated they are unwilling to release Ann from the contract. If Ann were to just quit, there is a non-compete clause, which would prohibit her from working for another news outlet for two years,” a source informed RadarOnline.com.
The news anchor's attorneys are stating that Curry's demotion from "Today" in April by NBC was actually a breach of her contract terms. According to a source, Ann's attorney thinks there is a very strong case about the breached terms. Additionally, Curry has technically not been allowed to appear on the network. NBC has given her some work to do, but it isn't steady.
It was reported last week that Matt Lauer is troubled that people are "yelling" at him over Curry leaving the "Today" show. Ever since Ann left the show, Lauer has been the center of negative statements, even going as far to say that he was the reason she was removed.
An insider also stated that if Curry were to just quit her job at NBC, she has a non-compete clause. This means that she would not be allowed to work for another news station for two years.
