Ann Curry is begging NBC executives to let her out of her NBC contract so that she can leave the network to work for CNN.
As you likely already know, Ann Curry was unceremoniously demoted from the “Today” show earlier this year. And while many may have thought that meant she was fired entirely, that’s not the case. Curry is still under contract with NBC, and still appears as a reporter for the network.
- Report: Ann Curry wants to leave NBC
According to Radar Online, Ann has begged NBC to let her out of her contract not just because she wants to join CNN’s new programming, but because it’s being run by her former boss Jeff Zucker.
"Ann wants out of her contract, big time. She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network. However, NBC bosses have indicated they are unwilling to release Ann from the contract. If Ann were to just quit, there is a non-compete clause, which would prohibit her from working for another news outlet for two years,” a source has told Radar in confidence.
What’s interesting about the Ann Curry situation is how it has since impacted Matt Lauer. Many fans of “Today” ruthlessly blame Matt Lauer for Curry getting canned from the “Today” show.
But it hasn’t gotten any better for Lauer as of late, who reportedly is being screamed at by people on the street who believe he was directly responsible for ousting Curry from her seat. Lauer is said to not only be upset by the rude encounters, but genuinely “miserable” because of it.
