Ann Arbor-Area Theatre Premieres Six Short Plays Starting April 3

On April 3, 2014, the Purple Rose Theatre Company of Chelsea, Michigan (neighbor to Ann Arbor) kicks off its Spring Comedy Festival with Lovers, Liars & Lunatics: An Evening of Brand-New Short Plays. The world premiere plays, intended for an adult audience, are written by playwrights Carey Crim, Craig Pospisil, David MacGregor, Jeff Daniels, Kirsten Knisely, and Lauren Knox. Knox will also be performing.

The director is Guy Sanville. Sanville has directed more than 30 plays from the PRTC since 1995.

The 8-week engagement will run April 3 to May 24, with performances at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays THROUGH Saturdays, with 3 p.m. matinees on Wednesdays AND Saturdays.

Performances will be discounted through April 10. The Press Opening performance is on April 11th.

Actor, musician, and playwright Jeff Daniels founded the Purple Rose Theatre Company in Chelsea, his hometown. Daniels is known for the HBO series The Newsroom and film credits that include Terms of Endearment, Gods and Generals, Pleasantville, and of course The Purple Rose of Cairo.

Daniels' 2001 film Escanaba in Da Moonlight, which he wrote, directed, and starred in, was based on an original play Daniels wrote that premiered at The Purple Rose Theatre. Sales of Daniels' music help support the Purple Rose.

The Purple Rose Theatre is located at 137 Park St. in Chelsea. Chelsea is about two and a half hours from South Bend. One route is to take 1-94 East to Exit 159, where you'll get onto M-52 North. You'll go through Three Rivers and Kalamazoo. M-52 takes you right to Chelsea.
