Anime, manga distributors, websites put out call to help Japanese victims

As more reports of deaths and missing come in after Japan's 8.9 earthquake, U.S. anime distributors and websites are putting out the call to otakus in the United States to help those in Japan.

More than 1,800 people are reported dead from the devastation, with more missing from the impact.  Food shortages are being reported throughout the country.  And with reports from the Fukushima nuclear power plant about a potential meltdown, many are concerned about family and friends in the area.

Anime News Network has started putting together a list of those in the industry who are checking in online. Streaming video site Crunchyroll has cancelled simulcasts until further notice.

US DIstributor FUNImation wrote on their blog that they are keeping an eye on the situation and are encouraging people to donate blood and money to the American Red Cross.

"So far, everyone we have spoken to is safe.  We will continue to keep an eye on the situation and help in any way we can," they wrote.
