Animation Block Party is back and in full effect

The Animation Block Party is back for it's seventh year this weekend! Animation Block Party not only has grown to become the premiere animation festival on the East Coast but it is also the only block party that screens animation.

This year a collection of 95 animated shorts and films are scheduled to be screened throughout the festival. The body of work being showcased ranges from Cannes and Sundance winners to underground and never before seen films by an international group of student, independent, and professional animators.

Opening night is Friday, July 30, at Rooftop Films, located at the Automotive High School on 50 Bedford Avenue, between North 12th and Lorimer, Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Animation Block Party has paired up with Rooftop Films for the past five years to provide a unique opening night experience. Rooftop Films is Brooklyn based non-profit organization which puts on events dedicated to showcasing independent movies in outdoor locations. This year's opening night at the Automotive High School features a big-screen simulcast of animation on both of the school's spacious lawns plus a live performance by local rock band The Big Sleep. It's BYOBorC (Bring Your Own Blanket or Chair) since seating is limited. Anticipated turnout is around 1200 people. The band is scheduled to go on at 8:30pm and the screenings kick-off at 9pm.

The block party atmosphere continues after the screenings at Matchless, located at 557 Manhattan Avenue at Driggs, Williamsburg Brooklyn. With your $10 admission to the opening night party you get the perk of free beer courtesy of Radeberger and Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum! Just remember not to take off the bracelet they give you at the door.

The festival continues on Saturday, July 31st and Sunday, August 1st at BAMcinématek located at 30 Lafayette Avenue (between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street) in Brooklyn, NY.

The screenings at BAM are sectioned off into four individual programs. Programs 1 and 2 will screen twice on Saturday and Programs 3 and 4 will screen twice on Sunday.

The after party on Saturday night is at the Fourth Avenue Pub at 76 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, and you get free Budweiser with proof of ABP-BAM ticket purchase.

The closing night after party on Sunday is at Habana Outpost at 757 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, and will tout streaming videos, free Six Point Ale and Habana corn for ABP-BAM ticket holders.
