As is stated on the someecards user card featured Animal Rescue Foundation’s (ARF-IL) Facebook page, Fostering isn’t a life-time commitment, it’s a commitment to save one life. Contact your local shelter/rescue. Could be best thing you ever did with your life – to save theirs. Fostering a rescued animal is one of the most rewarding things that you can do if you do not have the room or the time for a permanent pet or if you want to provide temporary companionship for your existing pet.
If you would be interested in fostering, you could speak to any one of the wonderful ARF volunteers as they will be attending another adoption event this Saturday, March 2nd at the PetSmart at 63 Rice Lake Square in Wheaton, Illinois, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. They will have both dogs and cats at the event, so if you are interested in either type of animal to come for a short stay in your home, the volunteers in royal purple would be happy to discuss this option with you!
Fostering a dog or cat is an excellent way to see if you are ready to commit to having an animal of your own. Since fostering is on a temporary basis, it gives you the opportunity to feel the love that comes with having a pet and the satisfaction of knowing that you may very well have saved this pet from being euthanized in someone else’s care.
This also gives the animals an opportunity to gain perspective on socialization; some learning basics for the very first time if they were previously in a puppy mill situation. These animals need to start from the bottom up what food and clean water is, what it is like to be clean, what collars, leashes and toys are, what a reward is and basically what some semblance of freedom is. For some puppies and dogs coming from a pathetic past, they may even get a name for the very first time!
As some people have stated, “I couldn’t foster because it would be too hard to give the animal up.” ARF volunteers replied, “How can it be harder than knowing that dog or cat couldn’t be saved because no foster homes were available?” And it is with this concept that the same individuals foster again and again!
Just as with other rescue organizations that are totally foster based, Animal Rescue Foundation, Illinois is in urgent need of foster homes for their rescued pets, both canines and felines.
