The streets of Boston are filling up with animals and I’m not talking about dog lovers taking man’s best friend out for a walk by the Common or the Charles. I am also not referencing escapes from the Franklin Park Zoo, so do not be alarmed! I am instead referencing the new and trendy animal motifs that are gracing the Boston fashion world.
Two animals in particular are taking Boston streets by storm, the first of which is the owl! Not an animal normally seen flying above Boston’s historical buildings it can now, even more oddly, be spotted a lot closer to the ground. Owls are popping up on many shirts (especially crop tops), dresses, and even some sweaters for fall. Owls motifs are not only being recognized by more affordable brands but by high end fashion as well. Marc Jacobs recently launched an entire owl inspired collection ranging from rings and necklaces to even wristlets and clutches. Not up for all the attention that sporting a whole owl can bring? Well maybe you can just focus on the feathers, another big trend this summer/fall.
The second animal that’s rising in popularity is the snake. Snake skin has been in and out of the fashion world more times than anybody can count, but this upcoming season it’s not so much the skin that everyone is after. (Although snakeskin manicures are upwards of $250!)
Instead fashion is embracing the entire snake, especially emphasizing the twists and turns of its coiled body. While snakes have been widely known to symbolize evil, they also are a major symbol of wisdom and if you want to keep building up your fashion wisdom you will certainly keeps snakes in mind when shopping for fall accessories.
It’s a jungle out there Boston, literally. So be careful not to get stampeded as you hunt for your next big fashion purchases.
