A Tampa, Florida woman has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after authorities say she gave a dog a C-section; only she isn’t a doctor. The arrest was the result of a multicounty investigation; the suspect is facing felony animal cruelty charges.

According to reports, Candace Patricia Hauser, 31, did not have a veterinarian license, but chose to give a pregnant Mastiff a C-section on March 4, 2014. Reports say that a woman brought the pregnant animal to Hauser for help with her delivery. Authorities say that when complications arose, Hauser gave the dog a C-section then closed the incision site with glue not used for medical purposes. The dog ultimately died shortly after. Fourteen puppies were delivered, thirteen of which survived.

The news has shocked the Tampa Bay community and news of the case is spreading nationwide.

Candace Patricia Hauser is being held in the Hillsborough County Jail.
