Animal cruelty charges brought against Rock Hill man

The second man in a horrible animal cruelty case was arrested at a Rock Hill motel on Wednesday, January 2.

Calvin McCullough, 23, was the latest to be arrested. Kenneth Walker, 34, was arrested on December 27 in the same case.

Police in Rock Hill, SC saw a suspicious car parked in front of a home on Hagins Street, according to wsoctv.com. This car was noticed on December 27 and while police spoke to two men inside the home, an officer saw dogs chained to trees in the backyard.

The dogs were in deplorable shape and animal control was immediately called. Tied to a chain was a dead puppy, four others were malnourished and had no food or water. The dogs were covered in open wounds that were infected, probably from dog fighting. Two other dogs could barely stand up and were limping.

York County Animal Control took the four remaining dogs and unfortunately had to euthanize them due to their condition.

Kenneth Walker has admitted to police that he owned the pit bull puppy that starved to death and he faces four counts of cruelty to animals.

Neighbors claim that they never heard dogs and didn't know that there even were dogs in the backyard of the home.

An aunt of the two men charged stated to police that she did not own the animals.

Both Calvin McCullough and Kenneth Walker face felony charges and are out of jail on bond.
