Every available kennel is full; some are housing two dogs. Summer is the time when animal control facilities see a large increase in the number of intakes, often because people let their dogs run loose to be picked up as strays. Sangamon County Animal Control in Springfield, Ill., has many dogs looking for new homes.
You will find a variety of sizes, ages and breeds ... some with reduced adoption fees.
Prim and Jelly Bean are small terriers, the kind that you wouldn’t expect to find as strays. April and Lisa are medium-sized, mixed-breed girls who most likely had homes not that long ago. Of special concern are dogs like Mystic, Hazel and Logan who have been at SCAC for several weeks. These dogs have their adoption fees reduced to half price in the hopes that they will find their forever homes soon, before their time runs out.
Look at their photos. Come spend some time with them. Adopt one … the sooner, the better.
