The creators of an innovative new drawing analysis app called Anima.ey have launched an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign to raise the funds required to complete the final stages of the development process. “A child's drawings can reveal tremendous insight into their emotions, development, social skills, experiences and current mental state. A child's artwork provides parents with a way to peek into the child's mind,” explained lead developer Ben Zaneti. Anima.ey is the world's first-ever touch screen-based app, which enables a child to create a drawing, which is then analyzed by a sophisticated algorithm which examines the drawing for a wide range of different factors that offer clues to a child's developmental stage, psychological state, experiences, mood and emotions. Zaneti added, “I was stunned to find that the marketplace is void of drawing analysis apps; there's nothing to provide parents with a psychological analysis based their child's drawings.
So I set out to develop Anima.ey, as a fun and useful tool that could provide parents and caretakers with general insight into the workings of their child's mind. Young children simply cannot verbalize their emotions, so Anima.ey provides parents with a tool that will serve to bridge this gap.” For the past two years, the Anima.ey team has been working with child psychologists, conducting significant research into child psychology and development based on children's drawings.
This information included determining the significance of characteristics such as color usage, subject matter of the drawing, proportions, the continuity and stability of the lines, the age-appropriateness of the drawing, the amount of detail in the drawings and the amount of pressure applied while creating the drawing. It's these characteristics that provide insight into the child's developmental and psychological states.
“We still need to perform a bit of additional research with a group of 300 children, as we need to identify any differences that occur when drawing on a touch screen instead of paper. Then, we need to complete the algorithm and app development process, which will be followed by a beta testing phase. So we've launched this crowdfunding campaign to fund these final stages so we can bring Anima.ey to the marketplace,” Zaneti explained. The Anima.ey App is expected to be available for download at some point in 2014. The app will be available for Android and iPhone.
