The Angry Video Game Nerd is an online personality that has amassed a spectacular legacy and influence across retro gaming culture and web geekiness in general. With videos that have garnered millions of views, a roast held in his honor, and a film in the making, what else was a Nerd to do?
Star in his own video game, of course. The inevitable has become the real, as Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is now available as a PC game via Steam, with plans to release on consoles in 2014. With its pixel graphics and countless references to the classic games of yesteryear, fans of the 8-bit Nintendo era and other titles should be fond of another challenging quest for them to undertake.
If the release date seems a little strange, this may be because AVGN Adventures was actually previous announced for a release of Monday, September 23. Its Friday release marks a three-day advance, meaning that it was actually launched early and ahead of schedule, a feat practically unheard of in gaming, or any other media product for that matter.
The game certainly enjoyed some buzz while it was in development, even if largely due just to the popularity of AVGN himself. If it is any measure, the Facebook page for the game had already gathered over 11,000 likes by the time the game was actually available. The Adventures will certainly enjoy an audience of thousands – and if it is really any good, thousands more besides.
