WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP- Angels for Anna will be hosting its second Birthday Bash Dash 5K Walk/Run/Roll, Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at Fairhaven Church located at 637 E. Whipp Rd., Centerville, Ohio.

This year’s race has a different theme- Super Hero- but the celebration is the same. Help celebrate Anna MacConnell’s birthday by dressing up like your favorite super hero and show them “What’s Your Super Power.”

The race has been designed for athletes of all abilities. Whether running, walking, or wheeling it, participants are encouraged to not only attend but to have fun.

“We want the community involved and have a good time by celebrating athletes of all abilities because Anna had special needs and we know a lot of families with special needs. We want them to feel welcome,” said her mother.

Angels for Anna was created to remember Anna MacConnell, who was born on May 7, 2001 to Chip and Elizabeth MacConnell. She was the couple’s first born child and the light of their life. Shortly after her birth, they learned that Anna had a severe heart condition, Tetrology of Fallot, commonly known as blue baby syndrome. Anna had her first open heart surgery at only 1 ½ months old.

Compounded with her heart condition, Anna was diagnosed with hearing issues and bilateral cataracts. Ultimately, Anna was diagnosed with Congenital Rubella Syndrome. Anna learned sign language to communicate and proved to doctors that miracles did happen. Even with facing difficult medical issues, Anna maintained a positive outlook on life. She lived to age 11 when she passed away on September 1, 2012.

“We usually have Anna’s birthday gathering at our house. But, we thought we would expand it out and invite everyone to her birthday party,” her father said.

Following the dash, the bash will be inside with music, cupcakes, chair massages, a photo booth, awards (handmade medals for age groups winners and special needs finishers), face painting & art projects and raffles (car washes, oil changes, massages, spa treatments, IPad and more.) Food will be available for purchase.
