Grammy award winning singer Angelique Kidjo attended the lighting ceremony of the New York Stock Exchange today for the Rotary International End Polio Now campaign. The New York Stock Exchange has been illuminated with the pledge from the Rotary International End Polio Now campaign which is part of the humanitarian service of the organization’s campaign to raise awareness and support the cause of eradicating polio through the Global polio Eradication Initiative.
The Rotary Club has handpicked twenty buildings which are well known and considered landmarks throughout five continents for today’s annual light display. The Rotary has been working hard to raise money for the eradication of polio since 1988 and has risen over $1 billion as well as helped fund immunizations for over two billion children in one hundred twenty-two countries. The campaign has helped reduce polio occurrences by over 99%.
Angelique Kidjo is known for her strong contributions to the community through advocacy, funding raising and volunteer efforts. In addition to supporting the Rotary International End Polio Now campaign, Angelique Kidjo has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador; she has founded the Batonga Foundation and has campaigned for Oxfam.
