Angelina Jolie wedding gown: Actress stuns in custom kiddie inspired design

It was one of the most highly anticipated weddings ever, and it looks like it was worth the wait. The first photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s wedding ceremony in France have emerged, and the “Maleficent” actress may just take the (wedding) cake for the most original gown in history.

On Monday, People posted exclusive photos of the A-list couple’s intimate ceremony (only 22 family and close friends were in attendance), which was planned in large part by their six children. But the kids -- Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 6 – were also a large part of Jolie’s unique dress design.

The simple white floor-length antique lace and silk dress featured dozens of colorful designs drawn by the couple’s children sewn into the fabric. The kids' artwork was also incorporated into Jolie’s veil. The masterpiece was created by Atelier Versace master tailor Luigi Massi. "Luigi is like family to me and I couldn't imagine anyone else making this dress," Jolie told the magazine. "He knows and cares for the children and it was great fun putting it together."

Jolie’s future gown has been a buzzy topic ever since the couple got engaged back in 2012. That year, Italian women’s magazine Grazia reported that the actress met with designer L’Wren Scott to discuss wedding gown ideas. Brides magazine even posted ideas for Jolie’s possible gowns next to gown suggestions for Pitt’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, and the portfolio included sketches by designers Reem Acra and Alfred Angelo.

While a lot of thought was clearly put into Jolie’s whimsical wedding gown, no designer was needed for the groom’s wedding day duds. Instead, Pitt decided to pull a suit from his closet, but he did boast something borrowed. The “World War Z” star apparently forgot to pack his tie, so he borrowed one from one of his sons.

Daughter Zahara, who served as a flower girl, wore a dress that was designed by family friend Adama Kebe, while her sister Vivienne wore a white dress from her closet. And Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and Knox wore black suits. (Shiloh's shorts and a top hat ensemble was a bit different than her brothers’ outfits.)

Earlier this year, Jolie told People the kids would “in a way be the wedding planners” and she joked that their theme ideas included “Disney or paintball.” “We've got a lot of different personalities in the house,” the Oscar winning actress said. “They've got some strong opinions. It will be fun. That's the important thing. When we do it, it will feel like a great day for our family.”
