Saturday, Angelina Jolie was lauded with a special Sarajevo Film Festival award while Brad Pitt proudly stood by for support at the closing ceremony in the Bosnis-Herzegovina capital city's National Theater.
Pitt and the rest of the audience reportedly rewarded Jolie with a standing ovation, during which time the emotional actress pleaded, 'I will start crying if you don't stop.'
Before giving the award, which was shaped like a heart, festival director Mirsad Purivatra so poignantly said:
'Tonight we are giving the honorary Heart of Sarajevo to a great artist, not only for the great impact she has in the world of cinema but also for persisting and her active engagement in the complexities of the real world we live in.'
As for Angelina Jolie response to this gracious announcement, she said:
"I am so honored to be here at this festival...There is no greater example of the strengths of the artists and the festival that began during the war and grew stronger every year."
Then Jolie presented Thomas Schubert from Austria with the best actor award for his characterization in Atmen, directed by Karl Markovics.
Meanwhile, Ada Condeascu took best actress for her leading role in Loverboy.
By way of background, Angelina Jolie made it her mission to visit Bosnia last year as UNHCR ambassador, letting the world know of the plight of some 117,000 people who--despite the fact that the war in Bosnia has been over for some 15 years --have not been able to return home. The actress-turned-director also used Bosnia for scenes in her film that will debut in the fall about a Serb man and a Bosnian Muslim woman who fall in love against all odds, only to be separated because of the war.
