Angelina Jolie has become intensely emotional about her initiatives to end war rape. Reuters reported on March 28, 2014 that Jolie is in Bosnia to campaign against war rape. During a campaign to end sexual violence against women during times of war Jolie was brought to tears while she was talking to rape victims of the Bosnian war during a visit on Friday.
While visiting Sarajevo Jolie said, "There can be no peace while women in conflict or post-conflict zones are raped with impunity." British Foreign Secretary William Hague accompanied Jolie. Hague will co-host a global conference in London with Jolie in June on preventing rape from being used a tactic in war. Witnesses confirmed that Jolie cried while she was listening to victims of war rape in the town of Srebrenica.
This initiative by Jolie was partially inspired by Jolie's film "In the Land of Blood and Honey". The theme
of this movie dealt with sexual violence which was inflicted on a woman during the war in Bosnia from 1992-1995. There were about 100,000 people killed and tens of thousands of women were raped in this war.
It has been reported by Fox News that Jolie and British Foreign Secretary Hague have said Bosnia's decision to include preventing sexual violence in military training is "groundbreaking" and should set a new standard for U.N. peacekeeping missions. Two years ago Jolie and Hague launched a global campaign to fight sexual violence in armed conflicts while ending impunity for the perpetrators and providing support for victims. With Jolie's inspirational support this initiative has great promise.
