According to Lifetime, the movie will follow the couple through their first meeting, the many ups and downs of their marriage as well as the late singer’s rise to fame. Bassett, who co-starred with Houston in the movie “Waiting To Exhale”, is excited to be apart of the project.

She said in a statement, “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”

Houston and Brown’s rocky relationship came to an end before the Grammy Award-winning singer died in 2012. Their marriage came under much scrutiny, especially when rumors surfaced that Brown was cheating on Houston. Brown was also accused of leading Houston down a path of drug addiction. The highlight of their marriage was the birth of their daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown.

This will all be chronicled in the movie that will be executive produced by Larry Sanitsky and written by Shem Bitterman. No casting has been announced, but rumors are sure to start flying about who should play Houston. Whoever it is will receive great direction and advice from Bassett. The “What’s Love Got To Do With It” actress received her Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Tina Turner.

Acting wise, Angela Bassett has had a recurring role in “American Horror Story: Coven” and is set to appear in “American Horror Story: Freak Show” when it debuts in October. As of now, the working title of the Whitney Houston biopic is “Whitney Houston.”
