Are you tired of smelling toxic fumes when all you wanted was a manicure? Would you like to have a conversation with your manicurist without their words being obstructed by a mask? With the abundance of nail salons in our area, it is rare that you find one that caters to the care of natural nails exclusively. Look no further! Nature's Intent Hand & Foot Spa your new home.
Meet Angel Williams - fashion manicurist and owner of the cute and cozy nail salon:
With the wide variety of nail services out there, what made you decide to provide natural nail services exclusively?
I decided to perform natural nails services early on, I was more interested in knowing if you natural nails were benefiting from routine maintenance verses perfecting my techniques with enhancements.
How long have you been in business?
I've have been a Manicurists for 10yrs and a salon (sole owner/operator) for 5yrs
What are a few of the products you use during nail services that your clients rave about?
I have two staple products:
- Buttah, lemon balm body butter from www.houseoflukaya.com; olive oil infused with organic herbs for 6 weeks (1.5 moon cycles) is combined with shea butter & grapeseed oil to moisturize and protect the feet
- Krakatoa Smooch Scrub, used for manicure treatments, nutrient rich with mango to nourish the skin of the hands and orange peel & dried coconut meat to exfoliate
I understand you've had your second 'go' at New York Fashion Week this year! Congrats! Tell us about that. How did it come about? How was the experience?
Fashion Week is great.... everything is fast paced, but fabulous, It's great to know that I'm part of a profession that helps complete the look on the runway, setting the trends for clothes, makeup, nails and hair for the next season.
I also like that fact that I am among some of the top people of these professions and get to see them create.
Out of all the professions in the world why nails?
It really just happened on a fluke. I went to school for accounting, a friend asked if I would go with her to nails school orientation, I was reluctant but went anyway.... I joined, she didn't.... we were doing pedicures on the first day... and I fell in love with it all, then and there.
Do you feel there is an upward trend in more people getting away from acrylic and other faux nail services? Why?
I think people are becoming more aware of alternatives to acrylics as well at taking a complete natural approach to "nailcare", so I don't think its a trend, I just think you find out what your goals are and finding the best way to obtain that goal. So if are looking for an enhancement and elongating you own nails is what you want, I see nothing wrong with acrylic, I just stress that you choose a reputable, licensed nail salon that has keeping your natural nail in tact a dual goal since serious problems can occur when not having acrylic applied properly. But if your goal is to maintain your natural nails, you and your manicurist should make sure products and treatments are addressing your issues and concerns.
How do you feel about the longevity of Minx nail services - here to stay or hot trend of the moment?
I think Minx is definitely here to stay, it's nail fashion, almost like an accessory, definitely for individuals that want to stand out.
Tell us about Nature's Intent Hand & Foot Spa. What makes it special?
- Nature's Intent is a natural nail spa specializing in combining customized hand & foot treatments with nature-kissed ingredients to restore health & beauty to the skin & natural nail.
- What's really special is that I have completely taken the conveyor belt approach out of nail care. I provide one-on-one client attention and the products used in all services compliments my mission, to care for the skin and nails the way nature intended.
- All of the what I like to call scrubs, rubs, lotion and potions used in the services are Indie Handmade Beauty products, products that are made by hand or from scratch, not some mass produced product filled with chemicals and created by small woman-owned companies (local when I can)
Fashion Manicurist - please explain.
Being that I've kinda moved from just being at the table as a Manicurist and have started participating in events like the NY Fashion Week and partnering with fellow Stylist, MUA and Photographers, I've labeled myself a Fashion Manicurist because what I do is apart of the complete look. And because I really take my Fan page seriously....lol, I feel it's my duty to bring my fan friends the current trends in nail care to the forefront....
Anything new on the horizon?
The Salon is in a good place right now. I have a nice intimate, reliable size clientele (and a good diverse group too) so my focus there right now is to make sure I'm delivering on my clients nail needs and keeping them current on all the goodies going on in the nail world, but making sure I compliment my mission. I'm enjoying being the resident nail expert over at All Tressed Up and I might even look into taking a creative writing class.
I definitely want to get more into doing Editorial work, maybe partnering with an agency. I also want to take some type of design class... learn more about colors and textures, for some reason I have a feeling this my help me somewhere down the road. I'm sitting for the Nail Technician Instructor License in October; just to have it in my back pocket.
