Angel Food ministries helps your grocery budget

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit group hosted by churches of all denominations. Starting in 1994, it has grown from a small community organization to a national one. They provide quality food at a very low price. Once a month, you can purchase a medium box containing a variety of foods for $30, which is about enough food to last a family of four one week.

The menu changes monthly and can be viewed online or at one of the host sites. There are three different packages to choose from. The signature box contains a wide variety of fresh and frozen items ranging from meats and vegetables to milk and eggs. The senior box contains ten precooked meals ready to just heat and serve. The allergen-free box contains frozen and dry mix items which elimiate the main food allergy sources. Each month there are also specialty boxes which you can order in addition to or in place of the others. They contain all meat or all produce and are priced around $20 each. There is no limit on the number or each package you can order.

How do you order? You can do it online at the Angel Food Ministries web site or contact your local host site. Host sites are the 5200 churches across the country which collect orders and distribute food. Once you have placed your order, you will be notified of the date which your items can be piced up at that site. This is only once per month, generall at the beginning, so make sure that you have placed your order before the deadline. Each church has its own ordering and pick-up dates as well.

While this is a ministry started to help those in need, it is open to not only low-income families. Anyone can order and there is no application. For families on food stamps, orders using food stamps are accepted.

For more information, check out the web site and contact your closest participating church.
