Sacramento-area author Shannon Dittemore writes from an intentionally Christian perspective. She writes gripping YA novels dealing with the spiritual realm and its interaction with human beings. “Dark Halo,” the third novel in her “Angel Eyes” trilogy, brings the story full-circle. Dittemore concludes the series with a dramatic finale that completes the story arc in fine fashion.
Brielle, the girl who sees angels and demons, must overcome her greatest challenge as she comes face-to-face with the Prince of Darkness. The halo that gave her the ability to see the normally invisible word has brought her pain along with its gift of sight. What will she do to be rid of the two-edged skill?
Her boyfriend Jake is missing and her concerns for him color her thinking. When the Prince promises her everything she wants, including a future with Jake, how can a mere girl stand against the temptation?
Dittermore presents a powerful story in “Dark Halo.” She demonstrates the seductive power of evil and the difficulty of choosing the right path under tough circumstances. Brielle’s path contains celebrations and laments; her involvement with the divine realm spares her nothing of the hardships of life. Instead, she experiences a greater understanding of the meaning of the decisions she makes.
Brielle’s journey parallels that of most young people, only taken to another level. YA readers will find her questions echo their questions. Her solutions can help them with their decision-making process. The trilogy provides excellent faith instruction even as it delivers a great fiction read. Brielle may be fictitious. The battle between heaven and the pit is all too real.
With this trilogy, Dittemore gives young people a chance to read a supernatural story built on Biblical truths. Her well-written narrative will delight Christian readers and entertain non-Christian readers (who may learn about faith as they are entertained). She rivals contemporary secular authors in her ability to weave a supernatural yarn. Although written as a YA series, adult readers will enjoy the books as well.
The trilogy consists of “Angel Eyes,” “Broken Wings” and “Dark Halo.” All three are available in both print and electronic formats.
