The Angel City Jazz Festival celebrates cutting edge jazz and is L.A.'s only non-commercial jazz and music festival. The festival will be at five venues over the first two weeks of October. It is co-produced by Angel City Arts and the Jazz Bakery. The opening show is October 4 at 6pm and it features the 2013 Musicians Competition Winners. At 7pm, Nicole Mitchell's Sun Dial Ensemble is on stage. The venue for these shows is LACMA.
On October 5 at Royce Hall on the campus of UCLA, John Schofield Uberjam have an 8pm show and that will be followed by Dave Holland Prism at 9:30pm. The next night, October 6 at the Ford Theater, the Richard Sears Group featuring Tootie Heath have a 5pm show. That show will be followed by Kneebody at 6:15pm and at 7:30 pm, Yosvany Terry Quintet will perform. Rounding out the evening will be the Greg Osby Group with Anat Cohen at 8pm.
At the REDCAT in Disney Hall on October 11, at 8:30pm, you can catch John Black, Tim Lefebvre and Chris Speed. That show will be followed by the John Hollenbeck & the Claudia Quintet at 9:45pm. On October 12 at the Colburn School of Music Zipper Hall features Robert Glasper Experiment at 7:30 and 10:00pm. The last night of the festival will take place at REDCAT in Disney Hall with the Dafnis Prieto Sextet for an 8pm show.
