Heavyweight Andy Ruiz (17-0, 11 KOs) of Imperial, California will face Matthew Greer (15-9, 13 KOs) of St. Louis, Missouri this Saturday, Mar. 16 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
The bout is being presented by Top Rank and will be a featured undercard bout on the Bradley-Provodnikov main event and televised live on HBO.
A heavyweight prospect as a pro, Ruiz is quickly climbing the ranks and gaining repect along the way. As a former Mexican National Champion in 2005, 2007 and 2008, Ruiz clearly left his mark as an amateur racking up over 130 wins.
With strong power and speed, Ruiz defined himself as a legitimate prospect with a win over Elijah McCall by TKO in round 3 last July. Ruiz displayed patience and planned his punches with deadly precision. He had McCall stunned and nearly dropped him in round 2, and really came alive in round 3 with a barrage of solid punches that McCall could not answer. The referee stopped the fight with a time of 2:59 of round 3.
For Ruiz, his hard work and training have paid off. A leaner Ruiz appears to have improved his speed and power. He has an excellent jab and is a master at working the body.
