'Andy Griffith Show' actor weds longtime partner (Video)

Gomer Pyle is a married man! Hawaii News Now exclusively learned on Wednesday, Jan. 30 that 82-year-old actor Jim Nabors married his longtime partner 64-year-old Stan Cadwallader in Seattle earlier this month. The actor is well known for playing the lovable Gomer Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show" in the 1960s and has been in a relationship with Cadwaller for 38 years.

The ceremony took place at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle on Jan. 15 after gay marriage was legalized in Washington state last month. Residing in Hawaii, Nabors told the local newspaper that "I'm 82 and he's in his 60s and so we've been together for 38 years, and I'm not ashamed of people knowing, it's just that it was such a personal thing I didn't tell anybody."

The actor received additional success when "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." aired on television in the late 1960s but he insists his sexuality has never a big secret although the marriage is the first time Nabor has acknowledged anything publicly. Nabor said, "This is really no big deal. My friend and I, my partner, we went through all of this 38 years ago. I'm very happy that I've had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed."

Born James Thurston Nabors in Alabama, Nabors moves to New York and then Tennessee to work in television after earning a degree from the University of Alabama. However, the actor soon moved to Los Angeles due to his asthma and became a film cutter for NBC. He moved to Hawaii permanently in 1976.
