Every year the Oscars have a memorial segment that pays a tribute to some of Hollywood's best who passed away the prior year. Not all deaths will make it into the tribute, but leaving Andy Griffith out had to be a mistake, right?
Andy Griffith is probably the most noticeable name left out last night. He passed away on July 3, 2012 at the age of 86. On that day people everywhere paid their own tribute to the man who had everyone whistling the tune from The Andy Griffith Show (1960 -1968).
Other Hollywood greats snubbed from the tribute included:
- Larry Hagman
- Richard Dawson
- Phyllis Diller
- Sherman Helmsley
- Susan Tyrrell
- Ann Rutherford
- Lupe Ontiveros
- Michael Winner
- Jerry Nelson
- Conrad Bain
- Donna Summer
- Russell Means
- Gore Vidal
- Alex Karras
- Sylvia Kristel
A supplementary online gallery was published by the Academy with 114 photographs to include additional actors, performers and filmmakers that have died. Even so, several icons were still not included in that gallery.
Were you disappointed these snubbed stars weren't in this segment, or did you not notice they were missing?
