Less than an hour ago, Jim Moriarty claimed another one. This time the actor who plays him on the BBC’s "Sherlock", Andrew Scott, has won Best Supporting Actor at the Irish Film & Television Awards held tonight in Dublin, Ireland. In fact, the ceremony is still going on as of this writing, the awards in the Best Supporting Actor and actress category handed out at the top of the show, as they do at the Oscars.
So, the major awards for "Sherlock" season two seem to be finished. Andrew cleaned up very well. He received the British award for it - the Bafta - last year, was not nominated for the Emmy, and now has the Irish award to stand on his mantelpiece.
Moriarty has turned out to be the role of a lifetime for Scott. He’s on the international radar because of it and will probably turn up in an American production within the next year, if his signing with a U.S. agency is an idication. Until then, he has completed, filming on the Irish movie "The Stag" and has more coming up later on BBC 4 TV in England. Check the next column for details on that.
