Andrew Scott has signed on for a new television show on England's TV Channel 4 called "Dates." The nine-part series consists of 30-minute discreet segments exploring the world of couples going on first dates. From the synopsis it appears it is a drama, though some of the episodes sound like they may have a comedy bent. Particularly the episode with Andrew and his wife from The Scapegoat movie, Sheridan Smith.
In the episode that reunites Andrew and Sheridan, Ms. Smith plays a schoolteacher named Jenny who meets Andrew's character, a Christian named....Christian. It may be quite the dramatic scene if there's some sort of religious dogma discussed, but somehow I don't see a first date meeting getting too heavy in only a thirty minute show. But, it's possible, of course.
"Dates" is from the creator of "Skins," the popular show about British teenagers that starred the young man from Slumdog Millionaire, Dev Patel. It airs this summer in the UK. Hopefully, it will be picked up on Ovation or some other cable outlet in the U.S. later on.
